PATIALA: Three days after the murder of a 19-year-old youth in a clash between two groups of alleged criminals, the police on Monday arrested four of the accused and got five-day remand. At the same time, an FIR was lodged for the mob violence allegedly led by the relatives of victim Paras Kumar of Dhiru Di Majri locality.

Those arrested include Harinder Singh alias Lovely Jaildar, Manjinder Singh, Dharminder Singh alias Dhanna, and Satvir Singh alias Satti, all of whom face charges of murder, said Kesar Singh Dhaliwal, superintendent of police.

The murder took place when a group led by Paras got into a clash with the group led by Lovely Jaildar, the main accused, in HR Enclave. On Friday night, Paras with 7-8 accomplices went to HR Enclave, where Lovely lives in a rented accommodation, and attacked him and his men with sharp-edged weapons, police said. In retaliation, Paras was attacked. His accomplice Sagar, 19, suffered injuries too.

In December last, both the groups had hurled stones and glass bottles at each other outside the residence of Capt Amarinder Singh, who is now chief minister

However, taking stringent notice of violence by relatives and supporters of the victim, the police also registered a case under several sections against at least 30 identified and 50 unidentified persons.

A day after the murder, a protest had taken a violent turn when a mob resorted to stonepelting, shattered windowpanes of two buses and some cars, besides damaging six shops.

Some in the mob also attempted to set ablaze one of the buses but were overpowered by the police with a lathicharge.
