Shunted UP woman cop gets support on social media

- Richa Srivastava

LUCKNOW: Support poured in on social media for senior police officer Shreshtha Thakur, who was transferred to Bahraich days after she took on BJP leaders after a vehicle checking drive in Bulandshahr.

“Don’t worry my friends I am happy... I accept it as a reward for my good work,” Thakur wrote on her Facebook wall after she was transferred to a remote border district of Bahraich on Saturday. “Jahan bhi jaega roshni lutaega.. kisi charagh ka apna makan nahi hota (Wherever it goes, it always spreads light. No lamp has its own abode)... Got transfer to Bahraich, it’s Nepal border. U all are invited to Bahraich,” she wrote on Sunday. Although the post was deleted, it was circulated by other users and ‘liked’ by hundreds on Facebook. People also commented on her post, saying they will stand up for her.

A page was created on Facebook in her support after she was transferred, which has been followed by over 2,000 people till now. “Real life lady dabangg. Full power. Hats off to you... your transfer shows that movies are no different... As a cop when you are honest and do good job you are either transferred or suspended... More power to you,” Eikram Baig posted on the page.

Meanwhile, residents of Syana in UP’s Bulandshahr remember Thakur as an upright police officer and say her transfer will send out a wrong message.

“Earlier, an honest DM AK Singh was transferred to satisfy party leaders and now another officer has become a victim of the ego of a few politicians,” Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, a farmer, said.
