ROHTAK A 27-year-old woman reportedly foiled a robbery bid on Wednesday by chasing down a snatcher who was fleeing after stealing her bag.

The woman, identified as Dimpy Gulati, was later rewarded by Rohtak superintendent of police (SP)

Pankaj Nain for her act of bravery.

Gulati works as a relationship manager with PNB Metlife in the district.

The police said she was going for work on her scooty towards the Jhajjar Road when a motorcycle-borne man coming from behind snatched her bag near Jain Jati Gali, and tried fleeing the spot.

The bag contained cash, her mobile phone and some cards and important bank documents.

The police said Gulati chased the snatcher on her scooty and banged it on his motorcycle to stop him. After the snatcher fell down on the road, she shouted for help from locals.

A police spokesperson said, “The snatcher hit himself with a brick and threatened to file a false case against her. But she did not deter and continued shouting for help from locals, who reached and caught him.”

The locals informed the police, which reached the spot and nabbed the accused. A video of the locals thrashing the accused in the presence of the cops has gone viral on the social media.

The police said the accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh of Sunariya village of the district. He has been booked under Sections 379B, 511 and 309 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“Preliminary investigations reveal the accused is an alcoholic and committed the act in an inebriated condition. His criminal record is being verified,” the spokesperson added.

After the arrest, Gulati, a resident of Sector 1 here, and her family were called by Rohtak SP Pankaj Nain to his office, where she was awarded for her bravery. “She has turned out to be an inspiration for all the women,” superintendent of police said.
