FRATRICIDA­L KILLING: ARMY NEEDS INSTITUTIO­NAL CHANGE

The fratricida­l killing of Major Thapa in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector is a sign of the deep resentment and seething anger among Indian army men. It is high time that the defence forces take such instances seriously and pay heed to episodes of fratricide­s, suicides, false allegation­s and complaints against senior officers. Senior officers should take responsibi­lity and act diligently to ensure they lead a calm and content team. Army men should be counselled to channelise their anger and impatience. The institutio­n also must go beyond mere lip service and improve working conditions. Things like liberalise­d leave policies are not enough, a lot more needs to be done.

Aastha Bagga, Hoshiarpur army curriculum and all ranks must follow this sternly. Technology is a boon for us and should not become a bane. This matter needs to be addressed on a priority and awareness, along with education, is the need of the hour.

This becomes imperative as in all elections in the country, a lot of money is spent on campaigns encouragin­g all to vote. Jasvinder Singh Humsafar Maloudh, Ludhiana reclaim her lost ground among Dalits before the 2019 general elections. We can soon expect another headline-making statement or action from her. To be fair to her, she is not the only publicity seeker in the politics.
