CHANDIGARH: Fixing the limit of fees charged by private medical colleges, the Haryana government has decided to soon form a committee to regulate the fee structures of universities also.

There are two private medical universities, one deemed private medical varsity and three private medical colleges in the state.

Interacting with media persons on Monday, health minister Anil Vij said since there had been allegations that varsities were charging exorbitant fees , a decision had been taken to regulate the fees of these varsities as well. “I had written to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the context and he has approved the proposal to have a committee for the same,” he said.

He said fee limit has been fixed for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS and other courses in private medical colleges and private unaided medical institutions. This will bring uniformity in fee structure and would end financial exploitation of students.

Vij said, “The CM had given his approval for the fixing fee and under this, the tuition and development fee of Rs 10 lakh annually for MBBS course. Earlier, private medical colleges used to take exorbitant fee from students, now this would not happen in future.” Besides this, private universities and deemed universities would also be covered in the Haryana Private Health Sciences Educational Institutions (Regulations of Admission, Fixation of Fee and Maintenance of Educational Standards) Act, 2012, he said.

He said the tuition fee of Rs 2.80 lakh annually and NRI initial fee of 44,000 US Dollar has been fixed for BDS course. Similarly, the tuition fee of Rs 1.50 lakh annually and initial fee of 25,000 US Dollar for 15 % NRI students in BAMS and BHMS, tuition fee of Rs 60,000 annually and 15,000 US Dollar for 15 % NRI students in BPT, MPT, B Sc Nursing and Post B Sc.

Nursing Course and tuition fee of Rs 75,000 annually and 15,000 US Dollar for 15 % NRI students had been fixed for M Sc nursing course. Except for BPT and MPT courses, there would be an annual increase of 5% in fee of rest of the courses. On abrupt closure of some of the private institutions leaving students in lurch, Vij said private medical colleges and medical institutions would now have to sign a bond of Rs 10 crore so that they did not close down in-between like Goldfield Medical College, Faridabad and left future of medical students in dark.

Fee limit has been fixed for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS and other courses in private medical colleges and private unaided medical institutions.
