Woman, grandson die as van hits stray animal in Hansi

NINE PEOPLE INJURED; THE VEHICLE CARRYING PILGRIMS FROM NEW DELHI WAS ON ITS WAY TO RAJASTHAN

HISAR :A 65-year-old woman and her 11-year-old grandson were killed while nine others received injuries when a mini-van overturned after hitting a stray animal in Hansi sub-division of the district late Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Kiran Devi and Keshav Kumar from Paharganj in New Delhi.

The mini-van carrying the pilgrims was on its way to Gogamehri in Rajasthan.

Police took the bodies in their custody and sent them for autopsy at a Hansi hospital from where they were referred to the general hospital in Hisar.

Among those injured are Pooja (21), Vasu (12), Meenu (35), Simran (31), Santosh Devi (60), Vimal (55), Guddi Devi (65), Jyoti (32) and Sunita (55).

Reports said when the van reached near Sainipura village, the driver failed to spot a stray animal on the road and rammed the vehicle into it. The driver lost control over the vehicle which overturned, killing the two on the spot.

The passerby informed the police and started rescue work.

Additional superinten­dent of police (ASP) Rajesh Kumar said, "We have arrested the van driver Azad Singh. We are questionin­g him. Ramesh Kumar, who who booked the van, has received minor injuries.”
