BATALA(FATEHGARH CHURRIAN): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal held half a dozen meetings with SAD workers in Fatehgarh Churrian assembly constituency, here on Monday.

During the visit, Badal met Akali sarpanch Vikramjeet Singh’s family at Bijliwal village. The sarpanch was reportedly beaten to death by the Congress workers, when he was repairing his boundary wall, three months back.

Targeting the state government, Badal said, “Seeing the ongoing atrocities of the Congress leaders on SAD workers, I started the Jabar virodhi lehar to boast the morale of the party workers.”

“I have received scores of complaints from across the state where fake cases have been registered against the SAD workers during the last 4 months of the Congress government,” said Sukhbir.

We will file a petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court and seek action against the police officers implicating Akali workers in fake cases at the behest of the ruling party leaders, he said.

Blaming Congress minister and Fatehgarh Churian Congress MLA, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Badal alleged that under his pressure, the Batala police registered a murder case against Sandeep Singh (17) and Ramandeep Singh (19) just because their parents refused to part with their agriculture land. “Tripat’s henchmen wanted the land but the parents of these youths refused. The MLA then asked police officers to book them in false cases,” said Sukhbir. “The MLA should maintain standards of public morality and refrain from asking officers to book SAD workers. He should stop hitting below the belt,” he said.

Disapproving the allegations levelled by Badal, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa said, “I am not aware about both youths and their families.”

“Badal is giving baseless statements to gain cheap publicity. I don’t indulge in blame game and I am averse to playing the vengeance card,” he said.

“Before speaking in public, Sukhbir should verify his facts,” he said.

‘GOVT RESPONSIBLE

FOR FARMER SUICIDES’ AMRITSAR: Criticising the Punjab government over the issue of farmer suicides, former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the state government is responsible for farmer suicides and has failed to tackle the issue. He said that at no other place has farmer suicide taken place at such a rate and the state government is unable to address the issue.

Badal, who was in Amritsar to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple, criticised the Congress government for stopping development works started during the SAD-BJP (Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya janata Party) regime.

The former deputy CM slammed the government for poor law and order situation in the state, adding that there are regular incidents of firing and police is unable to stop them.

Coming in support of the Akali workers, Badal said, “The current regime is targeting Akali workers. Apart from the atrocities, false cases are being registered against them.”

He even targeted local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and said, “Before elections, tall promises were made by Sidhu. But after polls, not much has been done.”
