Candidates under 15% all-India quota to join colleges by Aug 16

FARIDKOT The candidates who got their seats in medical colleges in Punjab under the 15% all-India quota for MBBS and BDS courses will have to join their respective colleges by August 16.
The candidates who do not join their colleges by this deadline will lose their seats.
The state has three government medical colleges in Patiala, Amritsar and Faridkot. Under the all-India quota, there are total of 75 MBBS seats in these colleges. Similarly, there are total 12 seats in two dental colleges of Amritsar and Patiala under the same quota.
A senior official of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) said, “In case students don’t join in time, their seats will be considered surrendered and fresh applications will be called for the vacant seats to be filled at the all-India level. A new date for allotment will be decided accordingly. The allotment of seats has to be concluded before August 30.”
BFUHS is the nodal agency for the state counselling for medical seats on the basis of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).
Under the all-India quota, students from anywhere in the country can apply for seats in any state. “After the second round of counselling for all-India quota seats, a student who takes admission in a college cannot vacate the seat to get admission elsewhere. That ensures that very few seats are reverted to the state quota. Also, all-India quota seats are filled by students from national merit list,” said Arvind Sharma, professor in-charge of admissions, BFUHS.
SECOND ROUND OF COUNSELLING
Meanwhile, students can fill their online preferences of colleges till August 13 for the second round of counselling for state quota seats at the official website of BFUHS. The university website can be accessed at www.bfuhs.ac.in.
The allotment of seats under the second round of counselling for the state quota will be done on August 18.
The university will release a list of seats allotted to medical and dental candidates at the official website.
Under the state quota, the aspirants are vying for 1,125 MBBS seats in eight medical colleges and 1,130 BDS seats in 14 dental colleges across the state.
All the seats, except 15% NRI quota seats in each college, were allotted in the first online counselling on July 24.
During the counselling for the NRI quota seats on August 4, out of the total 300 seats, including 136 MBBS seats, only 35 were filled.
The vacant NRI seats in government colleges were merged with the general quota seats. Seats in private colleges were merged with management quota seats.
Students in the second counselling will compete for the seats surrendered by the candidates after the first counselling and the left out converted seats from NRI quota.
