ROHTAK: A murder accused, who was going to attend his case hearing, was shot dead on the Ladhot Road in the district on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Ankit of Rithal village.

The incident was caught on CCTV camera. It showed Ankit riding pillion on a motorcycle with his friend when the two miscreants stopped their bike and fired shots at them. When Ankit fell down, one of the miscreants mercilessly fired multiple shots at his chest and head from a close range and fled the spot.

While Ankit died on the spot, his friend managed to run away.

Police say they are suspecting that a gang war may have been the reason behind the murder.

Last year, a national-level kabaddi player of Rithal village was shot dead near the same spot in a gang war.

Ankit and his friend were arrested in that case and were out on bail. Since they were prone to attack from the other side, they were given a gunman by the police.

On Friday, they were going to the court to attend the hearing with their friends and gunman on two bikes when the assailants targeted them.

One of the accused, clearly caught on camera, has been identified as Sanjeet of Sonepat. The police have registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy against nine people and have launched a hunt to nab them.
