Woman killed by brother on Rakhi

ROHTAK: The police are suspecting honour killing behind the murder of a 19-year-old girl who was stabbed to death by her brother and minor nephew on the night of Raksha Bandhan in Sonepat’s Khubru village.

The police said the victim, a resident of Rohtak’s Samar Gopalpur village, had alleged rape by a man of her village on the intervenin­g night of August 5 and 6, for which a complaint was lodged at the police station here.

On the next day, which was Raksha Bandhan, the brother of the victim took her to their elder sister’s house in Sonepat, where he along with his minor nephew, brutally stabbed the victim to death when she was asleep.

The police said the accused brother, identified as Monu, who was arrested on Thursday, has revealed that he killed his sister because he did not find her of good character.

He also instigated his minor nephew to stab her. The minor was earlier arrested and sent to juvenile home. SIRSA A 22-year-old youth allegedly killed a 26-year-old woman with an axe, in a suspected revenge killing in Moosli village of Sirsa district on late Thursday night.

The woman’s mother was also grievously injured in the attack. As per informatio­n, the youth’s sister had reportedly run away with the victim’s brother two months ago, which enraged him.

The victim, Bichu Devi (26) was sleeping at her home when the accused, identified as Pawan, entered the house and stabbed her and her mother, Murti Devi (55), with an axe. The police have registered a case against Pawan Nayak, 22, under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house-trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A manhunt for the accused.
