Banker alleges she was raped, duped of ₹49L by college mate

GURGAON: A city-based analyst in a multinatio­nal bank has alleged that she was raped by a man on the pretext of marriage and was also duped of ₹49 lakh during their relationsh­ip.

The Gurgaon police registered a case of rape at Sector 29 police station on Thursday against the accused under section 376 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.

The accused is a resident of Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. As per the complaint, the victim studied in a college in Ghaziabad where she had met the accused.

However, they lost touch thereafter and, in 2013, after a period of eight years, the woman met the accused by chance at a metro station in Gurgaon and they again became close.

The complainan­t said when she met the accused, she was working in a bank in Gurgaon. She alleged that the accused started interactin­g with her and they became friends. During this period, the accused managed to win the confidence of the woman and, on the promise of raising a large loan, he got her to transfer large sums of money to his account, she said.

During a visit to her flat in Gurgaon, the accused proposed to have physical relation with her, but on her refusal, he promised to marry her, She said he coaxed her out of her inhibition­s about a physical relationsh­ip. Thereafter, the accused allegedly forced her to have physical relations with her from June, 2015 to April, 2017 while repeatedly promising her marriage.

The woman alleged that the accused managed to take large sums of money from her on the pretext of arranging a loan. The amount finally stood at ₹49 lakh. However, on June 10, 2017, the accused met the woman at the MG Road Metro station and refused to marry her.
