97,000 to get NREGA cards in Gurdaspur, Pathankot: Capt

GURDASPUR:Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday announced a series of projects to create health and education infrastruc­ture besides providing new job cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the developmen­t of border areas of Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts.

During his speech at the statelevel Independen­ce Day function here, the CM said 67,000 and 30,000 MGNREGA cards will be issued to beneficiar­ies in Gurdaspur and Pathankot. He announced air connectivi­ty to Pathankot with flights to be made operationa­l by September 30.

The CM announced a state-ofthe-art new bus stand in Gurdaspur at ₹20 crore. ₹84 crore has been set aside for providing toilets and water connection­s to all rural households in the district, he said. He also announced ₹2.5 crore for infrastruc­ture upgrade at police stations in Gurdaspur, Batala and Pathankot.

Stressing the importance of ensuring the progress of the sensitive border areas, the CM announced ₹44 crore for health infrastruc­ture upgrade and ₹118 crore for school infrastruc­ture upgrade in Gurdaspur. Another ₹45 crore was allocated for disburseme­nt under the old age pension scheme, besides ₹7 crore for the ‘Ashirwad’ scheme, he said.

He announced the constructi­on of a new Sainik School’ at Dalla Gorian village in the district. Besides, ₹67 crore outlay for urban facelift of Pathankot and another ₹42 crore for urban facelift of Batala, he announced setting up of a PEPSICO bottling plant at Pathankot, where link roads would be repaired at a cost of ₹55 crore.
