State schools to have KBC style quiz

CHANDIGARH: With the launch of quiz bank of over 10,000 questions for the students of class 3 to 10 by school education department here on Thursday, Haryana has become the first state in the country to take this noble initiative towards improving the skills of students of the government schools.

However, instructio­ns have been given to about 4,500 schools (among 14,000 government schools) which have facilities of computer and projectors to run this weekly question answer activity in ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ style on projectors with the help of teachers to manually run and oversee it.

Additional chief secretary, school education, P K Das said the question bank was based on the syllabus of different classes.

Apart from making available the quiz bank in the schools through the DVD, it would also be available on the department website for teachers to download questions.

There are about 14,000 schools with about 22 lakh students.

After the school level, the quiz would be held on block and district level and finally on the state-level which would be held as a part of golden jubilee year celebratio­ns on November 1.

Das said this quiz bank would have questions based on general awareness, history and culture and would help increasing the logical reasoning of the students.

6,800 UNTRAINED TEACHERS

Replying to a question pertaining to untrained teachers, Das said there were about 6,800 untrained teachers in the state and the department had asked them to acquire the prescribed educationa­l and profession­al qualificat­ion under the right to education Act.
