BLAME GAME ERUPTS OVER ‘VIP TREATMENT’ TO DERA CHIEF

- Hardik Anand

ROHTAK: The state officials were caught contradicting each other as they sought to cover up the alleged VIP treatment given to rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on Friday.

The Ram Rahim was brought in a chopper to Rohtak at 5 pm on Friday, after which he was kept at a police guest house inside the Police Training College, which was converted into a makeshift jail for him.

Haryana inspector general (prisons) Jagjeet Singh told HT that Ram Rahim was shifted to the district jail in Sunariya much later around 9:30 pm.

Rohtak deputy commissioner (DC) Atul Kumar, however, on Saturday claimed that the dera head was kept in the jail since the beginning.

“This is all false. I was right there when Baba was brought to jail. He is not been given any air conditioner or RO water. Whatever is being run in the media is not true,” Kumar said.

However, sources said the guest house where the Dera head was kept upon his arrival had air conditioner.

IG (prisons) Jagjeet Singh told HT that all Haryana jails have RO purifier as well, so the dera head and, in fact, all other inmates in Haryana jails get RO water only to drink.

Inside the jail, the police have also deputed two ‘qaidi nambardaars’ with Ram Rahim, which director general (DG-prisons) KP Singh said were for his “surveillance as per jai manuals.”

The police and paramilitary forces have sealed the area up to three km from the jail.

The security forces are not allowing anyone to enter the premises of the the district jail in Sunariya
