Manoj clinches opening bout

HAMBURG: Manoj Kumar drew from his huge reservoir of experience, while Kavinder Bisht relied on sheer tenacity for hard-fought opening victories on another good day for India at the 19th World Boxing Championsh­ip. Manoj defeated Moldovan Vasilii Belous 3-2 in an exhausting welterweig­ht (69kg) contest. Kavinder, on the other hand, edged past Japan’s Ryusei Baba in a similarly draining flyweight (52kg) bout, which ended 3-2 in his favour. BENGAL WARRIORS

BEAT BENGALURU BULLS MUMBAI: Bengal Warriors produced a solid performanc­e to outclass Bengaluru Bulls 32-26 in the Vivo Pro Kabaddi League. Surjeet Singh scored eight tackle points for Bengal whereas Rohit Kumar scored seven points for Bengaluru Bulls. Jang Kun Lee also chipped in with six raid points for Bengal Warriors. Bengal Warriors have now 27 points after eight games Bengaluru Bulls have 23 points after 10 matches. Jang Kun Lee opened Warriors’ account in the first minute with a raid point. Bengaluru Bulls in the next three minutes scored four points to lead 4-2.

NAVIN, RAMESH WIN CHENNAI: Navin Kumar and Ramesh Hannuman won the Novice (Under 12) and Juniors (17 to 22 Years) Categories at the Covelong Point Surf, Music & Yoga Festival 2017. In the Groms Category (Under 16), Ajeesh Ali defended his title pretty well by securing a top finish yet again. Suhasini Damian secured the top spot in the Women Category (All AgeLocal) while the Women Category (All Age- Internatio­nal) saw Brigid Hayes emerge victorious.
