Pathankot armyman cremated with full military honours

PATHANKOT:Armyman Sukhdyal Saini , 26, of 28 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) who died battling bullet wounds in New Delhi’s R & R Army Hospital on August 28 was cremated here with full honour at his native village Samrala in Pathankot on Wednesday.

Sepoy Saini had sustained serious injuries in a gun battle with militants at Kupwara (J&K),11 days ago. A pal of gloom descended on the village after his body, wrapped in the tricolour, reached on late Tuesday evening. Bhoa member of legislativ­e assembly (MLA) Joginder Pal, Shaheed Sainik Parivar Surksha Parishad Kunwar general secretary Kunwar Vicky along with army and civil officials paid tributes. The villagers from nearby areas also joined in his last rites. After Saini’s condition deteriorat­ed, he was air lifted to Delhi hospital where he was undergoing treatment but breathed his last on late Monday night.

Saini had got married 10 months ago to Pallavi and had a son, Parvansh, whom he had not even seen as he was on duty.

His mother Santosh Kumari too carried her son's body on her shoulder while the martyr was being taken for the last rites. She said, “I am worried for my grandson who lost his father at such a young age .” She called on Indian government to give enemy country a befitting reply. MLA Joginder Pal said, “A gate in the martyr’s memory will be erected .”
