Thieves break open ATM in Moga, decamp with ₹8 lakh

MOGA:Miscreants broke open an automated teller machine (ATM) of an HDFC Bank branch at Fatehgarh Panjtoor village in the district and decamped with Rs 7.74 lakh on Friday night.

Police said the closed-circuit televicion (CCTV) camera footage procured from the bank by the police shows one of the accused entering the bank after breaking the shutter at around 2.30 am.

The accused later switched off the lights of the ATM cabin, used a gas cutter to break open the machine and decamped with Rs 7,74,400.

The incident came to light at around 8am on Saturday, when a security guard informed branch manager Vineet Kumar about the theft.

Vineet, in his statement, said that after getting informatio­n about the incident, he immediatel­y rushed to the spot and found that the bank shutter and the ATM were broken by the miscreants.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Singh said the police have registered a case against unidentifi­ed persons under Sections 457 (trespass or housebreak­ing in order to commit an offence), 380 (theft) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Fatehgarh police station.

He said raids are being carried out to nab the culprits.
