Govt to launch job mission on Sept 5

CHANDIGARH:The Punjab government will launch its “Ghar Ghar Rozgar” employment mission on September 5.

The ambitious programme will be kicked off with an employers’ meet at Indian School of Business in Mohali to be followed by state-level job fair. Experts, skill training profession­als and employers from micro, small and medium enterprise­s (MSME), large and mega industry, including India Council for Research on Internatio­nal Economic Relations (ICRIER) chairperso­n Isher Judge Ahluwalia, Walmart India chief executive officer Krish Iyer and Vardhman Textiles chairman Shri Paul Oswal, are expected to participat­e.

The Congress had, in its poll manifesto in the run-up to the state assembly elections, promised a job for every household in five year with the “Ghar Ghar Rozgar” slogan. After the Congress formed the government in March 2017, the state council of ministers headed by chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh again reiterated its promise. The programme will be formally started on Tuesday with thrust on employment-oriented industrial developmen­t.

Rakesh Kumar Verma, secretary, industries and commerce, said the state employment strategy is being evolved with the strategic goals of strengthen­ing supply side by empowering youth with skills, bridging industry academia gap, improving demand by generating quality jobs, strengthen­ing institutio­nal and devising strong implementa­tion and monitoring framework.

“The focus will be on creating jobs for unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled sections. The strategy will entail exploring opportunit­ies in all the segments of economy, particular­ly in sectors with potential to generate jobs,” he said, naming food processing, garments, tourism and health among areas with tremendous chances.
