Gangster, 5 aides held, weapons recovered

JALANDHAR: The city police have arrested Gursharan Singh Bhallu, a city-based gangster, who is wanted in 15 criminal cases, along with five accomplice­s, here on Saturday. Police have seized two illegal pistols, 11 live cartridges and two magazines from their possession.

Bhallu’s associates are Manmohan Singh, of Dhan Mohalla; Paramjot Singh, of Bhim Nagar; Mohit Gupta, of Nurpur; Vishal Sharma, of Mahindru Mohalla in Jalandhar; and Harjeet Singh, of Ajit Nagar in Kapurthala. All accused are in their twenties, said police commission­er Praveen Kumar Sinha,.

Sinha said, “On receiving a tipoff, a team led by assistant commission­er of police Manpreet Singh Dhillon, cordoned off area at Subhana Chowk near Jalandhar cantonment and spotted a Honda City car coming from Subhana, which was being driven by Bhallu. The car belongs to Bhallu’s mother.”

The cops signalled him to stop for checking, but he tried to flee. Following this, police chased the car. They nabbed Bhallu and his accomplice Manmohan alias Manu Dhaba.

He added that Bhallu, of Bhai Ditt Singh Nagar, had opened fire at his arch-rival Pancham Noor Singh, of Rasta Mohalla, in broad daylight on January 22.

Preliminar­y probe reveals that Bhallu had come in touch with Nabha jail escapee Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, who was later arrested. All his accomplice­s, except Vishal, are already facing criminal cases. All accused have been taken on five-day police remand.
