Criminal freed in court complex firing, four cops injured

-

ROHTAK: At least six armed assailants on Friday freed an under trial prisoner from police custody inside the court complex in Mahendragarh district.

The daring act was captured in a CCTV camera, which shows the gutsy criminals loaded with weapons firing at cops and snatching their associate from them to flee easily.

The under trial prisoner has been identified as Vikram alias Papla, a history sheeter who is an accused in at least four cases of murder. On Friday, he was being produced in a case of loot. It is learnt that prior to his arrest, he carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh in his name.

Narnaul superintendent of police (SP) Anil Dhawan said four policemen suffered bullet injuries in the firing incident, of whom sub-inspector (SI) Dharambir, who was shot in his head, is critical. He was referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak but his family took him to a private hospital in Rewari.

The SP said that the incident occurred inside the boundary walls of the court, but refused to admit that there was a lapse in security.

“There is not even 1% negligence of police. All eight cops were doing their duty. Four of them got injured, so the rest tried to protect the prisoners and foiled the escape bid of one. It was a sudden attack and the police cannot be blamed for it,” he said.
