SRINAGAR: Home minister Rajnath Singh met J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar on Saturday as he began his fourday visit to the state.

In the morning, Singh tweeted, “Leaving New Delhi for Srinagar on a 4 day visit to Jammu & Kashmir. Shall interact with delegations from different sections of the society.”

In the next tweet, he added: “I am going there with an open mind and I am willing to meet anyone who will help us in finding solutions to problems facing J&K.”

The People’s Democratic Party said on Twitter a review of progress on the Prime Minister’s Development Package was held in the presence of the home minister, the J&K CM and deputy CM Nirmal Singh. Singh is also scheduled to meet governor NN Vohra and interact with police and paramilitary men.

National Conference leader and former CM Omar Abdullah replied to Singh’s tweet, saying: “Na golli say na gaali say, galay lagana say J&K ka masla hal ho ga. We look forward to seeing these words from Red Fort on 15th Aug acted on.”

Abdullah was referring to PM Narendra Modi’s remarks on August 15 that the Kashmir problem will be solved “neither by abuse nor bullets but by embracing all Kashmiris”.

Meanwhile, separatist leader Yasin Malik was arrested while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house arrest on the day they were scheduled to leave for Delhi to court arrest at NIA headquarters.
