HISAR: The administration heaved a sigh of relief after the ‘Balidan Diwas’ (sacrifice day) observed by two factions of the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) passed off peacefully at Mayyar village in the district on Wednesday.

The AIJASS organises Balidan Diwas in the memory of Sunil Sheoran of Ladwa village who died in police firing during a protest on September 13, 2010. They also remembered Sandeep Karwasra, another Jat youth who died in police firing on March 6, 2012.

Heavy police force deployment was made to maintain the law and order in the district. The two factions of AIJASS, led by Yashpal Malik and Hawa Singh Sangwan, organised rallies at different sites in the Mayyar village.

However, Sangwan himself could not attend the rally due to ill health.

Talking to Hindustan Times later, AIJASS national president Yashpal Malik said, “We have given a two-month ultimatum to the government on the issue of reservation to the Jat community.”

He said, “We have decided to organise a national level rally at Jasia village in Rohtak on November 26 to decide the future course of action of our agitation.”

Meanwhile, Krishan Kirmara, Hisar district president of Sangwan faction of AIAJSS, said, “In Mayyar today, we decided to organise a rally in Jind on October 15, wherein we will elect our leadership.

Earlier this morning, we unveiled the statues of Sunil Sheoran and Sandeep Karwasra at Jat dharamshala in Hisar.”
