Girl from Amritsar village lives her dream of flying high

AMRITSAR: Bringing laurels to her village and setting an example for the rural youth, 24-year-old Anupreet Kaur has lived her dream of becoming a commercial pilot.

A resident of Heir village, located at a distance of 10km from Amritsar, Anupreet was born to Jagtar Singh and Paramjit Kaur, both government teachers.

Anupreet has been appointed as a first flying officer in Jet Airways.

Happiness of her parents knew no bound when she returned home on Friday after getting selected.

“My daughter always wanted to be a pilot and fly high. She has proved that girls are no less than boys in any sphere,” said her father Jagtar Singh while speaking to HT. “Her achievemen­ts have encouraged other girls as well. We are proud of her,” said the elated mother of Anupreet, Paramjit.

“I was a science student. After my schooling, I got enrolled into aviation club of Sri Guru Ram Das Jee Internatio­nal Airport here. I underwent aviation study and training for five years. After clearing my tests, I have now been selected by the Jet Airways,” said Anupreet, who is currently undergoing another training session.

“With 200 flying hours, I have been appointed as the first flying officer for national and internatio­nal flights with an annual salary package of ₹28 lakh.”

CATALYST OF SUCCESS: HER PARENTS

“I always had a fascinatio­n for air planes and used to track their trajectori­es when i was a kid. I have toiled hard to achieve my goal. But the credit of my success goes to my parents who thoroughly encouraged me,” Anupreet added. Making an appeal to other girls like her, Anupreet said that they should also pursue their dreams. “I want every girl to achieve her and to help them, I want to open a training centre.”
