Golden Temple museum to have IAF Marshal’s portrait

SGPC SAYS HIS PICTURE TO BE PLACED ALONG WITH ANOTHER 1965 WAR HERO, LATE LT GEN HARBAKHSH SINGH IN CENTRAL SIKH MUSEUM

AMRITSAR/SANGRUR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Kirpal Singh Badungar has announced that the portrait of Indian Air Force (IAF) Marshal Arjan Singh will be installed at Central Sikh museum in the Golden Temple to pay tribute to him. The former IAF chief had died of following a cardiac arrest at the Army’s R&R hospital in New Delhi on Saturday.

The SGPC president said that Arjan Singh’s picture would be placed along with the 1965 Indopak war hero, late Lieutenant General Harbakhsh Singh and General Jagjit Singh Aurora, here of 1971 war.

“He is hero of the country as well as of Sikh community,” he said in a press release issued here.

“Such legendary personalities are sources of inspiration for next generations and youth should take a lesson from their lives. To pay respect to the Sikh Marshal, we have decided to install his portrait in the museum, so that devotees know about him,” he added.

He said Sikhs have history of making great contribution for the country. “While Arjan Singh made contribution in Air Force, General Harbaksh Singh did so in army while fighting with Pak army during same war. Similarly, General Jagjit Singh Arora played key role in ensuring victory of India in 1971 Indo-pak war.”

Later, in Sangrur to oversee preparations for a religious function scheduled to be held on September 30, he said, “I hope the upcoming generations will learn from his lifelong experience.” DSGMC TO INSTITUTE AWARD IN NAME OF ARJAN SINGH

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has announced that it will institute an award in the name of Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh.

DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK has formed a committee comprising former Rajya Saha MP Tarlochan Singh, former Punjabi University V-C Dr Jaspal Singh, former chief of Indian Army Gen JJ Singh, and journalist Pushpinder Singh.

“The committee will work out all details of the award,” said GK. “He was an epitome of patriotism, and determination, and a source of inspiration for coming generations,” GK added.

GK also announced that the DSGMC would perform bhog and antim ardas of the Marshal in consultation with family members. “This has never happened before. We are setting a trend so that the entire community joins in giving tribute to its heroes,” GK said.
