TARNTARAN: The local police have arrested a former Border Security Force (BSF) trooper, Bikramjit Singh, 40, accused in 19kg heroin recovery made by former inspector Inderjit Singh on October 1, 2013, here on Tuesday.

Inspector Inderjit is himself in police net now, after being picked by a special task force (STF) with a haul of drugs and ammunition.

Police recovered 265gm heroin (valued ₹1.30 crore in the internatio­nal market), a countrymad­e pistol, three magazines and 20 rounds of .32 bore from the accused.

The daily crime report (DCR) sent by the Tarn Taran police only mentioned about the arrest of Bikramjit Singh of Muglani village in Khadoor Sahib sub-divison of the district, and the fresh recovery made from him. The DCR reads: “Bikramjit was arrested near Bahmniwala Chowk in Patti. His three accomplice­s, who were in a Hundai Verna car, managed to flee.”

As per sources, Bikramjit was booked after the investigat­ion of CIA Tarn Taran inspector Inderjit Singh in a case registered in 2013 at the Sarhali police station. As per sources,one Rashpal Singh, of Khemkaran, was arrested by Sara-e-amanat Khan police in 2013. He had confessed to the then CIA inspector that he, along with Sukhraj Singh, Ranvir Singh and three BSF troopers — Gurpreet Singh, Bikramjit Singh and Gurwinder Singh — had received 159 packets of heroin from Pak smugglers.

Bikramjit was arrested by the Tarn Taran police on October 10, 2013, along with Gurpreet, of Chuslewar village, and four other smugglers. Sources said,1.6kg heroin, and ₹4.65 lakh cash was recovered from them. Bikramjit remained in jail for one year.

Bikramjit has been booked under Sections 21-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances (NDPS) Act and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at Patti police station.

Despite repeated attempts, Patti station house officer (SHO) Hardeep Singh could not be reached for a comment. Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Darshan Singh Mann also could not be contacted.
