GURDASPUR : A local court on Monday extended the police remand of rape accused former Akali minister Sucha Singh Langah by one day. Langah, who had surrendered in the court of Gurdaspur chief judicial magistrate Mohit Bansal on October 4, was earlier sent to police remand till October 9.

Police got Langah medically examined at the Gurdaspur civil hospital before presenting him in the court.

He was first taken to the court of CJM Bansal who said he won’t be able to hear the case after 4 pm and asked police to present Langah in the court of additional civil judge (senior division) Amandeep Singh.

The additional civil judge after hearing the arguments of both sides, sent Langah to a oneday remand. The police had sought five-day extension in remand on the plea that they would have to recover the vehicle in which Langah used to “take the victim to various places and sexually exploit her”.

The vehicle in question was present in the district courts complex as Langah’s son Sukhjinder Singh had come in it. Langah handed over the keys of the vehicle to the police in the presence of the judge. The move weakened the police argument of five-day remand to trace the vehicle.

Langah is facing charges of raping a woman constable repeatedly since 2009.

The former minister has dubbed the allegations as “political vendetta.”
