FOUR DERA FOLLOWERS HELD FOR SIRSA ARSON INCIDENTS

HISAR: Police have arrested four persons in connection with damaging public and private property in Sirsa on August 25, after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted in a rape case. The police arrested the accused, two of them from Punjab, from Sirsa and produced them in a court which sent them to judicial custody.

Police spokespers­on Surjeet Singh said, "The police have arrested Sagan Lal from Kirtinagar area of Sirsa and Harpal Singh from Sukhchain Colony of Sirsa. Accused Kulwinder Singh and Bhajan Singh are from Punjab."

The dera followers went on a rampage in Sirsa and Panchkula after Ram Rahim’s conviction, damaging property worth crores.

Ram Rahim was convicted by the special CBI court on August 25. Following conviction, in violence in Punjab and Haryana 41 people had died.

The case was registered after in April 2002, an anonymous letter was written to the then Prime minister of India, Chief justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court among others, complainin­g about alleged sexual exploitati­on of woman followers at Dera. It was in September 2002 the high court had ordered CBI probe.
