Haryana to rate its villages; 7-star for perfect sex ratio, literacy, swacchta
MINISTER SAYS STATE HAS TAKEN ₹5,000 CR LOAN FROM NABARD TO EXECUTE DEVELOPMENT WORKS IN VILLAGES
ROHTAK: Haryana agriculture minister OP Dhankar said the state government will soon start giving star ratings to all its villages on the basis of work done in villages and the facilities they have.
Dhankar was addressing the representatives of panchayati raj institutions in the concluding ceremony of a three-day seminar in Bhiwani.
He said ratings of up to seven stars would be given to villages, based on sex ratio, sanitation, cases of power theft, environment, literacy rate and crime rate. He said such a healthy competition among villages would lead to their overall development by encouraging all citizens to make their surroundings better.
Dhankar said the state has taken a loan of Rs 5,000 crore from NABARD to undertake development works in villages, as the panchayati raj budget of Rs 2,000 crore for over 6,000 villages in Haryana was not proving to be adequate in catering to the needs of villages.
He said an additional assistance has also been sought from the finance commission. “With the assistance of NABARD and finance commission, Rs 15,000 crore would be spent on development of villages in the state during next five years,” he said.
Wooing the village chiefs, Dhankar said no FIR would be lodged against them without proper investigation of complaints.
He said Rs 3 lakh would be given annually to all villages for recurring expenses. He said illegal possessors of panchayat land would be removed.
Dhankar said the process of issuing new below poverty line ration cards would start soon. He said he was the chairman of the committee constituted for this purpose, which has sent its proposal to the government.
