COMMISSION AGENTS NOT TO BUY PADDY FROM OTHER STATES

KARNAL : Haryana additional principal secretary for women and child welfare department SS Dhillon on Monday asked the officials of the food and supplies department not to allow purchase of paddy in Haryana’s mandis from other states.

Dhillon talked to district administra­tion officials during an inspection of procuremen­t in Karnal. He asked them to check details of farmers brining paddy to grain markets to ensure a complete check on the purchase from other states. Action will be taken against officials for non-compliance.

Following pressure from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Haryana government had directed the district administra­tions to impose Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) to ensure ban on burning of paddy straw. Even Whatsapp numbers have been started to file complaints. As many 18 farmers were booked in Karnal under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and imposed ₹2,500 fine per acre for violation. The state government also announced ₹50,000 incentive to a village panchayat for not burning the waste.

Kuruksehtr­a deputy commission­er Sumedha Kataria said, “Since Delhi is hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup, we appeal to the farmers to avoid stubble burning for sake of India’s reputation. We have called a meeting of gaushala committees to use the paddy waste as fodder.”
