US on path for WW3 with Trump at helm: Top Republican leader

- Yashwant Raj

WASHINGTON: A top Republican lawmaker warned on Sunday that US President Donald Trump’s actions could set America “on the path to World War 3”, claiming that the billionaire was treating his office like a “reality show”.

The public spat between Trump and Bob Corker could have serious consequences to the former’s key policy aims — the Tennessee senator is also the chair of the powerful foreign relations committee, and his vote will be vital to the fate of the Iran nuclear deal and passing tax reform.

The feud was kick-started by Trump on Sunday morning. He claimed Corker had “begged” him for his endorsement for his re-election, and dropped out of the race when he declined. He also claimed the senator had asked to be his secretary of state and that he told him. “NO THANKS” (in capital letters).

Corker hit back, tweeting: “It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.” That was a reference to White House aides trying to contain Trump from going rogue.

Later, he told The New York Times: “He concerns me. He would have to concern anyone who cares about our nation.”

PENCE EXITS NFL GAME AFTER PLAYERS KNEEL US vice president Mike Pence walked out of a National Football League game on Sunday after some players knelt during the national anthem, a demonstration that began last year in silent protest against police violence toward racial minorities.

Pence was attending a game in his home state of Indiana between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers.
