Tare to lead Mumbai in match against MP

MUMBAI: Aditya Tare will lead Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy opener against Madhya Pradesh, which begins in Indore from October 14, but some star players are missing as they have been named in India A and Board President’s XI squads, which will take on visiting New Zealand.

Surya Kumar Yadav has been named as the vice-captain of the Mumbai team for the match against Madhya Pradesh.

This will be the first season of former India stumper Sameer Dighe as their coach.

Mumbai players Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur have been named in the India A squad, for the first three ODIS against New Zealand A, to be played in Visakhapat­nam. Shardul has been named for the last two ODIS against New Zealand A.

Senior pacer Dhawal Kulkarni is also named in the Board President’s XI squad, that takes on New Zealand in two warm-up games at Cricket Club of India here. It also has Shreyas and Prithvi.

Ranji squad: Aditya Tare (captain), Surya Kumar Yadav (vice captain), Abhsikek Nayar, Akhil Herwadkar, Siddhesh Lad, Jay Bista, Sufiyan Shaikh, Vijay Gohil, Akash Parkar Royston Dias, Minad Manjrekar, Adiyta Dhumal, Shivam Malhotra, Shubham Ranjane and Eknath Kerkar.

DAFEDAR BUILDS ON BISTA’S DOUBLE TON Powered by opener Jay Bista’s double hundred Mumbai amassed 578 against Tamil Nadu in the Col CK Nayudu Elite Division Under-23 match being played at Thirunelve­li. In reply, Tamil Nadu were 59 for two.

Bista scored 212 off 229 balls with 21 fours and a six. Lower-order batsman Khizar Dafedar built on that with a 140-ball 91.

MCA POSTPONES ELECTIONS

The Mumbai Cricket Associatio­n postponed its elections which were scheduled to be held on November 10. The decision, taken in an urgent managing committee meeting held on Monday, was keeping in mind the Supreme Court hearing on October 30 on the implementa­tion of the Lodha reforms in the BCCI.

“In its last order, the SC had directed the BCCI to hold the elections only after implementi­ng the Lodha reforms,” said a MCA member.
