Nadal pulls out of Paris Masters

PARIS: World number one Rafael Nadal pulled out of the Paris Masters on Friday before his quarter-final with a knee injury.

The Spaniard, who had his right knee strapped during his third-round win on Thursday, said he wanted to try and be ready to face Filip Krajinovic in the last eight but that “it wasn’t possible to play”.he did not say if he would be fit to play at the World Tour Finals in London later this month.“yesterday (Thursday), the pain was very strong but it was not the moment to stop,” Nadal told a press conference.“i had treatment last night to try and be able to play today. But unfortunat­ely it was impossible for me to return to the court in the same condition as last night. It is a sad day for me.”

INJURED DJOKOVIC TO DROP OUT OF TOP 10

PARIS: Novak Djokovic will drop out of the world’s top 10 for the first time in more than a decade next week. The 12-time Grand Slam champion has not played since July after ending his season early due to an elbow injury.

Juan Martin del Potro’s win over Robin Haase in the Paris Masters third round ensured that former world number one Djokovic will be ranked lower than 10th for the first time since March 2007.

WOZNIACKI ENGAGED TO US BASKETBALL PLAYER

NEWYORKI: Danish former world No 1 tennis player Caroline Wozniacki has said she has accepted a marriage proposal from US basketball player David Lee.

“Happiest day of my life yesterday saying yes to my soulmate,” she tweeted. Wozniacki split with Northern Ireland golfer Rory Mcilroy in 2014.
