MLAS argue over ward delimitation meeting for Ludhiana

- HT Correspondent

LUDHIANA : A meeting held to finalise ward delimitation for the city for the civic body polls saw heated arguments among MLAS on Monday. The MLA Bains brothers — Simarjit Singh and Balvinder Singh — accused the Congress leaders of violation of rules while finalising the wards.

In their objection, Bains brothers alleged that at the time when the population is rising, the number of wards under both their constituencies (Atam Nagar and Ludhiana South) have been decreased from 24 to 22, even as the basis of the delimitation is population.

According to the population, their should be 35 wards in their constituencies, they claimed.

The submitted their objection with local bodies bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and with the chairman of the delimitation committee.

After ward delimitation, the number of wards in the city would increase from 75 to 95.

The brothers even said they would court if justice was not done and wards were not divided properly.

Attempts were made to reach Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Sanjay Talwar, but they were not available. Meanwhile Congress MLA (North) Rakesh Pandey said that ward delimitation is almost finalised and the notification regarding the same was expected to reach the city in one or two days.

WAR OF WORDS BETWEEN CONG MLAS

MLA Simarjit Singh Bains alleged that the Congress MLAS entered into a heated argument over the chairmanship of the ward delimitation committee as the director-cum-chairman was on leave on Monday.

Bains alleged that Congress MLAS, including Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MLA Rakesh Pandey and other Congress leaders, were desperate to become the chairman of the committee, so that they could implement biased ward delimitation. Later, MLA Surinder Dawar (Congress) was afterwards selected as the chairman.
