HISAR :Three migrant labourers died while receiving treatment a day after 15 workers were injured in a petroleum tank explosion at an oil mill in Hisar’s Uklana block in the wee hours of Sunday.

Six of them were critical with over 80% burn injuries.

The deceased were identified as Bhim Raj (62) of Orissa, Suresh Kumar (45) and Santosh Kumar (18) of Bihar.

Police said while Bhim Raj and Suresh Kumar died at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, on Monday morning, Santosh died at a private hospital in Hisar.

A Hisar police team was dispatched to PGIMS, Rohtak, to get post-mortem examination of the bodies. The condition of some of the injured continued to be critical.

On Sunday, the explosion took place at Ashish Garg Oil Extraction Factory near Surewala Chowk of Uklana block. It took seven fire tenders four hours to douse the flames, which is said to have been caused due to leakage in boiler.

Police spokesperson Chander Bhan said the police have already started investigation into the matter and registered a case against the factory owners on the statement of Subhash, one of the injured workers.

Subhash, who has been working in the mill for the past 12 years, had on Sunday told the police that the factory had been lying dysfunctional for nearly six months due to technical glitches in machines, and had resumed work on Saturday only.

Based on his statement, the police have booked factory owners, one of them named in the FIR as Krishna, under Sections (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 336 (act endangering life or safety of others), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 338 (causing grievous hurt), and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
