Husband, in-laws booked for demanding car as dowry ›

TARN TARAN : The Patti police of the district booked a man, his father and mother for allegedly demanding a car in dowry, and thrashing his wife on Sunday.

The accused are husband, Jaimal Singh , 30, father-in-law, Mangal Singh, 50, and motherin-law, Amarjit Kaur, 49, of Goindwal bypass in Tarn Taran.

In her complaint with the women cell of Patti police, Kawaljit Kaur, 29, said that she married Jaimal Singh on November 16, 2011.

“My parents gave ample dowry at the time of marriage, but my in-laws were not satisfied. They demanded a car, which I refused. For I didn’t fulfil their demand, they thrashed me and I was forced to left their house,” she added.

“On August 27, my husband and his parents came to my paternal house in Patti and thrashed me again,” she complained.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Panna lal of Patti police station said, “After the probe by Patti women cell, a case under Sections 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 420 (cheating and dishonestl­y inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the victim’s husband, father-inlaw and mother-in-law at the Patti police station.”

He said, “The accused are stuill absconding, and all efforts are being made to arrest them at the earliest.”
