SHIMLA: A man-eating leopard, which had killed an elderly woman in Ribba village of Kinnaur district, was hunted down by a team of shooters on Monday.

The wildlife department had arranged the shooters from Solan and pressed them into service to catch the killer leopard.

On November 9, the leopard had mauled a 74-year old woman Kaman Devi to death after decapitating her. Following this, the department had declared the leopard as a man-eater and given the orders to catch or kill.

The team of shooters sighted the leopard on Monday morning and shot him in a forest near Ribba village.

The news of the hunting came as a relief to the locals of Kinnaur district who had been terrified for the past few days.

In Himachal Pradesh, the leopard-human conflict has resulted in the loss of 34 human lives since 2004.
