12 ‘fake’ passport agents arrested

JALANDHAR : The police have arrested 12 agents outside the passport office for duping and looting the applicants, here on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Satinder Kumar, ACP central, said that acting on the complaint of applicants, a case was registered against the seven people on Tuesday. Following the complaint, police raided the passport office on Wednesday.

He said that during the raid, 12 agents, identified as Joginder Singh, Gurinder Singh, Satish Kumar, Shami Heer, Major Singh, Kulwant Singh, Ashwani Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Biral, Ajay Kumar and Rajesh Kumar, were arrested. All the accused are in their 30s.

ACP said that these agents were duping the people by misguiding and charging double amount against the fixed fee from them.

He said, “The applicants have filed complaints against these agents after verifying the complaint. All the accused are arrested under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In another case, the police booked five people for illegal gambling out of which three were arrested on Wednesday. Those arrested have been identified as Harjit Singh, Sahil Kumar of Phagwara and Rakesh Kumar of Jalandhar.

Police have recovered over ₹32, 000, eight LCDS, six CPUS, and four computer scanners from their possession. The trio has been arrested under Section 420 and Gambling Act at the division-2 police station.
