PSPCL to fill 2,800 vacancies

JALANDHAR: At the time when different unions are protesting against the management demanding regularisa­tion and salary hike, the Punjab State Power Corporatio­n Limited (PSPCL) has announced vacancy for 2,800 employees for the post of assistant lineman.

The unions have welcomed the move of the management for starting the process of filling up the vacant posts which are reportedly over 30,000.

Notably, people who had completed two-year apprentice­ship with the PSPCL had jointly formed a union by the name Unemployed Lineman Union.

The union-led by AAP MLA from Bhadaur Pirmal Singh have long been demanding government jobs for 4,000 unemployed linemen in the state.

The candidates should have completed their matriculat­ion along with two years National Apprentice­ship Certificat­e in lineman trade.

Bijli Mulazim Ekta Manch spokespers­on Mandeep Singh Chahal said, by this week end , the government may advertise recruitmen­t for over 3,000 posts.

On Tuesday, about 2,500 workers had protested outside PSPCL office in Patiala. “In a meeting with the management on November 18, they had agreed to fill up at least 5,000 vacant posts. It is expected that the management will announce the recruitmen­t of another 3,000 by the end of this week,” said Chahal.

“The management will soon announce the recruitmen­t for the post of around 300 LDC (lower division clerk) and another 300 SSA (sub-station attendant),” he said. Chahal said,they have also demanded for provision of pay band to the PSPCL and PSTCL staff like other government employees are getting.

For the new recruitmen­t, PSPCL has kept the age limit till 42 years as on January 1, 2017.
