WHILE GRANTING BAIL TO AMARJIT SINGH SANDOA, THE COURT ALSO DIRECTS HIM TO JOIN INVESTIGATIONS

RUPNAGAR: A local court on Monday granted interim bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Rupnagar Amarjit Singh Sandoa in a case of alleged molestation of a woman.

Sandoa had filed the anticipatory bail plea in the court of Rupnagar sessions judge BS Sandhu after Rupnagar police presented challan against Sandoa in the court of local chief judicial magistrate on November 21.The chief judicial magistrate had summoned Sandoa on December 12.

While granting interim bail to Sandoa, the sessions court also directed him to join investigations. The court issued a notice to the state in this regard for December 16.

The court ordered that in the event of surrender by Sandoa before chief judicial magistrate within seven days, he may be released on bail.

In July this year, police had registered a case against Sandoa on the complaint of a woman, who had rented out her house in Giani Zail Singh Nagar area in Rupnagar to Sandoa in October last year on a rent of Rs 30,000 per month.

She had alleged that Sandoa vacated the house in May this year and did not pay the rent, electricity and water bills for the month of April as well as the amount for the damage caused to the house, which was estimated to be around Rs 3 lakhs.

The woman alleged that she had contacted Sandoa several times for the payment of rent and bills, but he did not pay any heed to it.

She added when she and her relative Satinder Dhaliwal from Chandigarh reached his own house in the same locality, Sandoa came out of the house and sat in a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle.

When she asked him about her pending money, he abused her and used foul language and pushed her back. As a result, she fell down and got bruises on her body.

He caught hold of her hand and dupatta. Thereafter, he threatened to kill her if she ever asked for her money again. He also threatened to get her and the person accompanying her arrested in a false case, if they did not go away, she alleged.

Sandoa was booked under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) among others of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
