Youth dies in ‘accidental’ fire, another injured in Pathankot

PATHANKOT: A youth, identified as Rajat, 22, of Darang Khad village near here died on Sunday evening when a gun went off accidental­ly killing him on the spot and injuring another youth, 23-year-old Pankaj, of the same village.

He sustained bullet injury on his arm. Pankaj is admitted to a private hospital here where he is stated to be out of danger.

Pankaj said he and his three friends, including the deceased, had gone on a hunting trip in the forest area of Dhar Block along with their dogs.

When the dogs started clashing with each other, the youth, who was handling the gun, tried to part the fighting dogs with the gun held in his hands upside down. In the process, the gun went off suddenly.

Rajat was killed on the spot, which killed youth and injured me, Pankaj said.

Station house officer (SHO) Mamun Kuldip Singh said that he, after learning about the incident and that one of the injured was in the hospital, reached the hospital to record the statement of the injured and the other two youths, who were accompanyi­ng the victim.

“We will register a case after we take the statements and thorough inquiry, Station house officer (SHO) Mamun Kuldip Singh said.

The body was taken in possession by the police, but was yet to be sent for a post mortem at the time of filing this report.
