- HT Correspondent

HOSHIARPUR : The ashes of Manmohan Singh Khalsa, one of the founders of Dal Khalsa, who passed away in the UK on November 20 at the age of 70, will not be brought to India but will rather be taken to Nankana Sahib in Pakistan and immersed in Ravi in Pakistan. This decision was reportedly taken by the family.

Meanwhile, the Dal Khalsa organised a 'shardhanjali samagam' here at the Singh Sabha gurdwara to pay tributes to the departed leader. Panthic personalities from across the spectrum paid tributes to the deceased leader and hailed his contribution to the Sikh cause.

A resolution adopted during the event stated that Manmohan Singh's struggle to get the right to self determination for the Sikhs would be carried forward. Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann, Dal Khalsa leaders Harpal Singh Cheema and H S Dhami Golden Tmple head granthi Gaini Harpal Singh, SGPC members Karnail Singh Panjoli and Harjinder Singh Dhami, Khalsa Panchayat chairman Rajinder Singh, Akhand Kirtani Jatha representative R P Singh addressed the gathering.

Mann said that Mannmohan Singh became a leading light for the Sikh freedom struggle and played a vital role in bringing minority groups in the UK and Pakistan together for their common cause. Even when the Indian government pruned the blacklist and removed his name, he refused to come back to India, he added.
