Four killed, 17 injured as bus rams into truck in Moga

MOGA : Four people were killed and 17 others injured when a private sleeper bus rammed into a stationary truck on the Baghapuran­a-moga road during the wee hours of Thursday.

The bus carrying 40 passengers, all from Rajasthan, belonging to Vijay Travels, Jaipur, was on its way to Jammu from Jaipur and near the Singhawala village in Moga, it rammed into the truck.

Police sources said the bus was speeding. Police confirmed that four people — all males between 25-50 — were dead. Three of the dead have been identified as Rajinder Singh, a army personnel; Sadhu Ram, 38, of Hanumangar­h and Hemram.

One body is yet to be identified. The exact cause of the accident was still under investigat­ion, but it was believed that the driver of the bus might have suffered from drowsiness.

Moreover, poor vision due to foggy weather conditions in the wee hours could also be one of the reasons behind the collision.

The injured have been admitted to the Moga civil hospital. Moga DSP Kesar Singh said, “The rescue operation is over. The injured have been sent to hospital and a probe is on.”

A case has been registered under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code at City (south) police station in Moga.

The injured have been identified as Jagdish Khedar (from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan), Nagesh (from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan), Ajay (from Manan, Pathankot), Anu Devi(from Manan, Pathankot), Sajiz Khan (from Churu, Rajasthan), Vikram Singh (from Churu, Rajasthan), Ram Dudi (from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan), Raja Singh (from Churu, Rajasthan), Mahesh Kumar (from Kalana Hanumangar­h), Anil Kumar (from Hanumangar­h), Channa Ram (from Nago, Rajasthan), Subhash Chand (from Jammu), Ambika, Subhas (Pathankot), Krishan Kumar (from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan), Sanjay Kumar (from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan) and Sunil Kumar (from Charu, Rajasthan).
