J&K PRADESH CONG COMMITTEE CHIEF SPOKESPERSON RAVINDER SHARMA SAID THAT NIZAMI WAS SUSPENDED IN 2015 FOLLOWING SOME COMPLAINTS AGAINST HIM

JAMMU: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi dug up old tweets of Youth Congress leader Salman Nizami about 'azadi' and 'Afzal Guru', Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Saturday distanced itself from Nizami, saying ‘he is not even member of the Congress party.’

Addressing a rally in Gujarat's Lunavada on Saturday, Modi had said, "There is a youth Congress leader, Salman Nizami. He is even campaigning for the Congress in Gujarat. He wrote on Twitter about Rahul Ji's father, grandmother. That is okay, but he asks, 'Modi, tell me who is your mother, who is your father?' Such language can't be used, even for enemies."

JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma told Hindustan Times that JKPPC disowned Nizami way back in 2015.

“He was inducted into the Congress in 2013-14. He was at a very low level post of publicity secretary in the PCC and thereafter in 2015, he was suspended following some complaints against him,” said Sharma.

“Since 2015, he is not been even the member of the PCC, not even a primary level delegate. If he has said anything derogatory against the Prime Minister, it should not be attributed to the Congress. Whatever he has said was highly condemnable,” said Sharma.

In the same Gujarat election rally, Modi had also spoken about Nizami's tweets on Afzal Guru. "He calls for Azad Kashmir. He calls our army rapists. How can the people accept such people like Salman Nizami? He also says an Afzal will emerge from every home," Modi said.

Sharma, however, added, “Nizami has now started saying that his account was hacked and he didn’t make those derogatory remarks.”

A party leader said that Nizami, a virtual non-entity in politics, had been introduced by a Kashmiri leader and since then, he had been trying hard to develop proximity with the Gandhi family.
