With reference to HT report ‘Aiyar gave my ‘supari’ in Pakistan, says Modi”, the former Rajya Sabha member Mani Shankar Aiyar has hit the headlines again for the wrong reasons. Aiyar has a way with words, but some of his remarks often land him in trouble and end up embarrassi­ng the Congress. In the run up to the 2014 elections, he queered the pitch for Congress with ‘chaiwala’ remarks about the BJP’S prime ministeria­l candidate Narendra Modi. But the PM declaring that Aiyar gave his ‘supari’ is equally unpalatabl­e and unbecoming.
