No AAP nominee in Dharamkot, Bariwala
MOGA/MUKTSAR: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has no candidate in fray for the December 17 elections to the Dharamkot and Bariwala municipal bodies in Moga and Muktsar districts respectively, while the party could field only four candidates on party symbol for the 15-member Talwandi Sabo municipal council.
In Dharamkot, the nominations of all its 11 candidates were rejected. Two candidates of the ruling Congress have already been declared elected unopposed for the 13-member Dharamkot municipal council.
The local AAP leadership alleged that the administration rejected nomination papers of party candidates on “very silly objections” under political pressure. AAP leader Lachman Singh said the municipal council did not give him a ‘no objection certificate’ due to which his nomination was rejected.
However, the Congress is facing rebels in as many as eight wards.
The AAP has filed no candidate in Bariwala 11-member municipal council. AAP leader Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar held party’s newly elected Muktsar district president Jagdeep Singh Sandhu responsible for it.
“We are supporting candidates with good record. We will also campaign for them,” Sandhu said.
The SAD is contesting 9 wards, leaving two for the BJP. The Congress has fielded its nominees in 10 wards and is supporting an independent in one ward.
TALWANDI SABO
In Talwandi Sabo council, AAP has fielded only four candidates on party symbol and is supporting five independents, amid allegations of muscle power and political pressure on officials levelled by AAP’S Talwandi sabo MLA Baljinder Kaur.
