I have asked the police to solve the case within 48 hours. The key is to arrest the accused and also to provide medical assistance to family members who are under deep shock. RAJKUMAR CHHANENA, regional director, national Commission for Scheduled Castes

UKLANAMANDI(HISAR): Even as the police now claim to have rounded up 45 people for the brutal rape and murder of a six-yearold from a Dalit family in Uklana, on Saturday regional director, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Rajkumar Chhanena visited the family on Tuesday. He also took stock of the investigation and visited the crime spot.

He held a press conference where he said he came to know of the crime on Sunday and is in touch with Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Manisha Chaudhary and SIT head DSP Jaipal Singh.

“DSP Jaipal Singh, who heads the SIT formed into the case, has told me that 45 suspects have been rounded up. I have asked him to solve the case within 48 hours. The key is to arrest the accused and also to provide medical assistance to family members who are under deep shock,” Chhanena said. He added that the police were trying their best, but there was no CCTV footage. “The family has also not named anyone as suspect,” he said.

FORMER AREA MLA DEMANDS CBI INQUIRY

During the visit, former MLA from the Uklana block, Naresh Selwal, demanded a CBI probe into the matter. “It has been five days since the incident and the administration has done nothing for the family of the victim. The Haryana police are clueless. The government must announce a CBI inquiry.”

In the horrifying case, a sixyear-old girl was raped and tortured to death using a 24-cm wooden stick — which was found inserted in her private parts in Hisar’s Uklana block on Saturday. Initial probe revealed that the victim was abducted from her house (a tent near the railway crossing) at night, brutally raped and left to die with a wooden stick inserted into her genitals.

The post-mortem report has confirmed rape and torture, adding that 16cm of the stick was found inside her body. This ruptured her intestines and uterus. The incident came to light after the family of the minor raised an alarm over not finding her at home in the morning. The child’s body was found in a pool of blood near a telephone exchange at an abandoned spot, just 200 metre from her tent.
