Why FIR against one doc only, HC asks Haryana; seeks report

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday questioned the Haryana government as to why it has booked only one doctor into an incident of a Gurgaon hospital charging ₹18 lakh from a family for the treatment of dengue.

The high court division bench of justice AK Mittal and justice Amit Rawal asked the Haryana government to submit a probe report by January 18 — from the day the girl — Adya Singh, daughter of an IT profession­al from Gurgaon — was admitted till the time of her discharge. Later, she had died. The HC also observed that the matter should have been probed by a special investigat­ion team (SIT) and not by an individual.

The HC bench also observed as to how only a doctor has been booked in this case, but no action has been proposed against others as multiple persons would have been responsibl­e for different aspects of the treatment.

The seven-year-old died of dengue and the family was prescribed expensive medicines, during 15-day hospital stay, with a bill of Rs 18 lakh.

motu petition on dengue cases being reported in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. On the last date of hearing, the matter was brought before court by the amicus curiae, senior advocate Anupam Gupta following which the high court had sought a report.
