FARMER DIES OF ‘INJURIES IN SUICIDE BID’

SANGRUR : A farmer died on Tuesday of injuries suffered when he hanged himself in Ghabdan village last week, it is learnt. Gurpyar Singh, 27, was initially admitted to the civil hospital in Sangrur but doctors referred him to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala; thereafter he was admitted to the PGIMER in Chandigarh but he died at his home as he was brought back three days ago.

He is survived by his wife and a three-year-old son. “As doctors said he could not be saved, he was brought home where he died around 5am on Tuesday,” said Gurmail Singh, a resident of the village and a farm union leader.

He added that Gurpyar was cultivatin­g one acre of land and was under Rs 7 lakh of debt from banks and lenders. Multiple social media posts indicated that the new leader of the New Democratic Party could get hitched to fashion designer Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu, better known as Ginu, according to CBC and Huffington Post.
