GURGAON: The family members of special police officer Mukesh Kumar, who was killed on duty while trying to stop a speeding SUV early Monday morning in Dundahera, are in shock over his sudden demise.

Kumar hailed from Sirsa Khera village in Jind district and is survived by his wife, two young daughters and an infant son.

“We were told about the incident around 2.15am on Monday. We were asked to come to the hospital as Mukesh had suffered injuries but we did not expect him to be dead. The entire family is in shock,” said Krishan Kumar, the father of the deceased.

Kumar was appointed an SPO in July 2017 by the Gurgaon police on a monthly salary of Rs 14,000. The post is a contractual one and,

hence, he was living alone in the city while his family stayed back in the village.

Mukesh Kumar joined the Haryana State Industrial Security Force (HSISF) in 2004 but the force was later disbanded by the government.

“He had a six-year-old daughter, a four -year-old daughter and a one-and-half-year-old son.he had joined Gurgaon police with great hopes,” said Manoj Kumar, the cousin of the deceased.

Family members are now hoping that the Gurgaon police and the government will come to the aid of his wife and children, who are now staring at a bleak future. “We request that the police department give a job to his wife and compensation to the family so that they are able to survive the tragedy,” Kumar said.

The Gurgaon police said compensation to the victim will be given as per the recruitment policy of SPOS. “All help will be given to the family of the deceased and the accused who perpetrated this crime will be nabbed soon,” said Ravinder Kumar, public relations officer, Gurgaon police.
