Suicide by Batala karate player: Kin allege police inaction

- HT Correspondent

FATEHGARH CHURIAN: Alleging laxity on the part the police in arresting the accused involved in abetting suicide of 25-year-old international karate player Kuldeep Kaur, members of Istri Akali Dal held a candle-light march in Fatehgarh Churian on Monday.

The family members of the deceased accused the special investigation team (SIT) of failing to arrest the accused even after five days of her death.

Holding placards and boards, the protesters alleged that the cops were working under the influence of a cabinet minister who, they claimed, was helping the accused.

Kuldeep’s brother Satwant Singh said, “We are being threatened by the henchmen of the ruling party leaders to arrive on a compromise or else we will be implicated in fake cases.”

Blaming the Congress minister and Fatehgarh Churrian MLA, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, for influencing the investigations, former tubewell corporation chairperson Ravi Karan Singh Kahlon alleged that Bajwa and former market committee chairperson Balwinder Singh Kotla Bhama had earlier put the pressure on police to register a fake case against Kuldeep and when she ended her life after being denied justice, Bajwa was now forcing the police not to arrest the accused.

Kuldeep had committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at her native village of Gujarpura on January 3.
